The Federal Integrity Commission revealed today, Wednesday, that it has managed to dismantle a network engaged in extortion and bribery in Babil Governorate, indicating that members of the network were extorting those wishing to contract for leases on lands belonging to the governorate that were announced for rent, in exchange for passing their transactions.
The Commission stated in a statement received by the Video News Agency that a team from the Babil Investigation Office, after conducting investigations, uncovered a network consisting of the head of the Property Valuation Committee in the governorate’s Diwan, his wife, and his son, who are employees in the Hilla Municipality Directorate. It clarified that the network members were extorting those wishing to contract for leases on the governorate's lands announced for rent, and receiving financial amounts from them in exchange for processing their transactions and obtaining the necessary approvals for leasing the properties, in coordination with several follow-up agents.
It added that, in cooperation with the intelligence Falcon Cell, an arrest warrant was executed against the accused, who confessed to receiving financial amounts from several individuals wishing to contract in exchange for facilitating the approval processes for leasing properties belonging to the governorate.
It confirmed that the operation also resulted in the seizure of documents, contracts, and bank cards in the possession of the accused, noting that they were presented along with the seizures before the competent investigating judge, who decided to detain them according to the provisions of Article (307) of the Penal Code.
