The head of the Security Media Cell, Lieutenant General Saad Ma'an, confirmed today, Saturday, the seizure of a platform for launching missiles within Iraqi territory that was used in an incident targeting the pipeline in Saudi Arabia. He indicated that there is ongoing field and intelligence work to reach those involved in targeting Saudi Arabia and stressed that the replacement of some security leaders is a message that Iraq will not tolerate or allow any acts of aggression.
Lieutenant General Ma'an, in a press statement seen by "Al-Fideo News Agency", said, "The commander-in-chief of the armed forces agreed to a request from the Islamic Republic of Iran to participate in the investigation and closely monitor the results regarding the repercussions of the incident targeting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia."
He added, "An intelligence and security task force made significant efforts and managed to reach the platform and seize it within Iraqi territory," noting that "investigative procedures are ongoing by forensic experts as well as technical documentation, examination, and analysis not only to seize the platform but also through continuous serious field and intelligence work to reach them."
He clarified, "There is continuous communication with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on various levels, including this incident, to exchange intelligence and security information and to inform them of the investigation results," emphasizing that "Iraq adopts the principle of 'preventive sovereignty' which not only means preventing the targeting of our lands but also not allowing our lands to be a starting point for targeting any other country, or for Iraq to be part of a liquidation process or a proxy war."
Regarding organizational and border procedures, the head of the cell pointed out that "the border crossings represent a gateway to sovereignty, and the temporary closure of some of them was to review regulatory, administrative, and intelligence issues and to check sonar devices," explaining that "the Shib, Mandali, and Shalamcheh crossings were opened for a few hours for humanitarian reasons by order of the Prime Minister to facilitate the passage of citizens and then were temporarily closed, while the Zurbatiya and Mandaraya crossings continue to receive travelers."
As for security changes, Ma'an indicated that "the process of rotating and changing leaders and commanders came to focus on leadership, control, and field follow-up during a sensitive phase that does not tolerate any mistakes or negligence," affirming that it is "a clear message to everyone that Iraq will not tolerate or allow any acts of aggression."
