Mosul University is preparing to launch the largest solar energy project in Iraqi universities.
Mosul University announced today, Sunday, the completion of the technical and administrative procedures to launch the largest sustainable solar energy project in Iraqi universities, with a production capacity of up to 30 megawatts, and a grant of 40 million euros provided by the German Development Bank.
During a press conference, the university president, Wahid Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, stated that the technical and administrative requirements for the project have been completed, and it is scheduled to launch in the field after signing the final contract next November, noting that the feasibility study was prepared by a specialized British company.
Al-Ibrahimi clarified that the project aims to achieve a significant degree of self-sufficiency in electric power for the university's faculties and facilities, with the possibility of feeding the surplus production into the national grid, which will contribute to supporting the provision of services to hospitals and water stations in Nineveh Governorate.
He added that the project will also help reduce electricity consumption costs and enhance reliance on clean and sustainable energy sources within the university.
He pointed out that the project includes the establishment of a specialized research center to train local staff on the operation and management of the solar power station, paving the way for expanding the experience and generalizing it in other Iraqi universities in the future.
