The Electoral Commission announced today, Sunday, the commencement of simulation procedures and technical tests for a sample of data received from the Ministry of Interior, in preparation for a decisive decision regarding the adoption of the unified national card as a substitute for the voter card in the upcoming elections. It confirmed reaching a common vision with the company supplying the election equipment to address technical challenges, in cooperation with the Advisory Board at the Prime Minister's office to ensure the readiness of the new system.
The commission stated in a statement received by the Video News Agency that "Judge Fayyad Yassin Hussein, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Commissioners, chaired the oversight committee for the legal technical committee using the national card for voting, along with representatives from the company providing result acceleration devices, in the presence of committee members Judge Abbas Al-Fatlawi and Judge Imad Faris Rashid, members of the Board of Commissioners."
The statement added that "the meeting was attended by the Assistant Head of the Electoral Administration for Technical Affairs, Head of the Legal Technical Committee Mr. Mohannad Fadel, Director of the Operations and Information Technology Department Mr. Walid Khalid, and Director of the Legal Department Mr. Rahim Nasser, on Sunday, September 6, 2026."
It continued, stating that "extensive and detailed discussions were held with the manufacturer of the election equipment regarding the nature of using the sample data received from the Ministry of Interior and the possibility of conducting the test and simulation to reach a suitable technical decision regarding it. Both parties have reached a common vision and identified potential treatments to achieve the desired goals."
The statement clarified that "the Electoral Commission has held a series of extensive meetings with specialists from the Ministry of Interior, in the presence of representatives of the Advisory Board in the Prime Minister's Council, to obtain the data in a format that allows conducting tests on it and discussing the possibility of using the national card for voting in the upcoming elections."
