U.S. President Donald Trump condemned today, Monday, a "malicious conspiracy" targeting artificial intelligence, amid increasing calls to slow its development due to potential threats it may pose to humanity, especially from leaders of major companies in this field.
Trump emphasizes the necessity for the United States to maintain its leadership in the field of artificial intelligence by preventing China from winning this competition.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, seen by the "Video News Agency," Trump stated, "The only regulation or +safety barriers+ that artificial intelligence needs is a strong and smart president with a high IQ! And the United States has many of these!".
Trump had repeatedly criticized last week the warnings issued by American tech leaders regarding the risks associated with the rapid development of artificial intelligence, arguing that imposing controls on this process would give China the advantage in this field.
He added in his post, "There is a malicious conspiracy being plotted against artificial intelligence and data centers, and China is the only beneficiary of this.".
He continued, "Whoever wins the artificial intelligence race wins everything! We are ahead of China and everyone in this field, and we will remain so. To conspiracy theorists, agents, traitors, and leakers, beware.".
Trump specifically attacked Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, who called for slowing down the pace of AI development, a position supported by Sam Altman, his counterpart at OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, and Elon Musk.
Trump wrote, "The Trump Administration prevented +AI experts+ from doing bad things, including Dario (Anthropic!) who is currently trying to appear as the +perfect little angel+.".
During his visit to Ireland at the end of this weekend, Trump repeatedly rejected calls to regulate the pace of AI development in response to reporters' questions.
Speaking to reporters aboard the presidential aircraft "Air Force One" on Sunday, Trump stated that he listened to the concerns of tech experts directly last week.
In response to a question about whether he downplays the expressed concerns, he stated, "No, we don't downplay them. But we know that the benefits of (this technology) will far outweigh its harms.".
