The city of Malmö in southern Sweden witnessed a notable protest after Swedish politician Nils Littorin, a representative of the Malmö List (Malmölistan) party, arrived on horseback at a protest gathering in the city center, opposing the rising parking fees.
Swedish media reported that Littorin took this step ahead of the first session of the city council following the elections, aiming to highlight the increasing financial burdens that residents bear due to parking costs.
Littorin stated in an interview with Swedish television (SVT) that the high parking fees might lead residents to use horses as a means of transportation in the future, noting that parking costs 30 Swedish kronor per hour, which is about three dollars.
He added that relying on bicycles is not an option available for everyone, explaining that some residents do not live in the city center, making cycling impractical for them.
A number of party supporters and politicians gathered in Stortorget square about an hour before the first session of the city council on Thursday, coinciding with Littorin's arrival on horseback, in an effort to draw attention to the issue of rising parking costs.
The Malmö List party received 3.9 percent of the votes in the municipal elections, allowing it to secure two seats in the city council.
