National Security Advisor Qasim al-Aboudi discussed today, Sunday, with his British counterpart Jonathan Powell ways to enhance security partnership and exchange of information and expertise between the two countries, in addition to expanding investment cooperation.
The media office of the National Security Advisor stated in a statement received by "Al-Fideo News Agency" that the meeting addressed bilateral relations and areas of joint cooperation, particularly in combating terrorism and exchanging information and security experiences.
Al-Aboudi affirmed that the Iraqi government, led by Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaydi, is moving forward with the implementation of its governmental program, which includes combating corruption, restricting arms to state control, and providing a safe and attractive environment for investment, contributing to the development of the national economy, infrastructure, and supporting sustainable development.
He noted that Iraq's relations with countries in the region are based on mutual respect and shared interests, within a balanced foreign policy, pointing out that the Iraqi constitution stipulates that Iraqi territory should not be used as a launching pad for attacks on countries in the region.
Both sides stressed the importance of dialogue and diplomacy to contain escalation, stop wars, and restore calm and stability, warning of the repercussions of continued conflicts on countries around the world, particularly in the energy sector and the global economy.
For his part, Powell expressed the UK's support for the Iraqi government's program and efforts to establish security stability, affirming his country's readiness to enhance cooperation with Iraq in areas of information exchange, combating terrorism, and expanding investment cooperation between the two countries.
