Ukrainian regions have been subjected to a widespread Russian attack targeting energy facilities and infrastructure in several areas, using hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles, causing power stations to stop and power outages in the capital Kyiv and other regions.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Russia launched 289 drones, 17 ballistic missiles, and 59 cruise missiles, noting that the attacks led to three out of five thermal power plants owned by the private electricity company (DTEK) being taken offline, in addition to enforcing emergency power outages in several regions.
In a related context, Zelensky announced the death of 33 people due to shelling that targeted a school in the town of Komyshuvakha in the Zaporizhia region, which was used as a center for sheltering civilians and distributing humanitarian aid, while it is believed that around 50 people are still trapped under the rubble, with rescue operations ongoing.
For its part, Moscow stated that its strikes targeted sites and facilities that supply energy to military factories and the Ukrainian army, while the governor of the Yaroslavl region in Russia reported that an oil refinery was attacked by Ukrainian drones, resulting in a fire and injuries to two employees, according to the Russian account.
These developments come amid continued military escalation between Moscow and Kyiv, and ahead of a new round of anticipated talks between the two sides in Abu Dhabi on November 10 and 11.
