The Federal Integrity Commission's personnel in Nineveh Governorate were able today, Monday, to apprehend an employee from the Mosul Municipality and his two sons for extorting citizens and demanding amounts of money from them in exchange for refraining from participating in a public auction conducted by the municipality.

The Integrity Commission stated in a statement received by the Video News Agency that the operation was carried out based on a decision from the investigative judge of the Nineveh court specializing in integrity cases. A team from the commission's staff moved to the Mosul Municipality and managed to arrest the employee and his sons for exploiting the employee's position and collaborating with his sons to extort several citizens wishing to participate in the auction for leasing a store on one of the properties in the eastern Nineveh area.

It added that the accused requested financial amounts from the citizens in exchange for not allowing them to enter the auction conducted by the Mosul Municipality, which limits competition among those wishing to participate.

It continued that an official seizure report was organized for the operation, and the accused were presented before the investigative judge of the Nineveh court specializing in integrity cases, who decided to detain them under the provisions of Article (336) of the Penal Code.
