Hundreds of farmers and agricultural workers closed the circular road in the city of Kut today, Sunday, in front of the government fuel warehouses and at the entrance of the Al-Ahdab oil field to prevent the entry and exit of vehicles in protest against the decision to raise the price of kerosene. Security forces intervened to disperse the protesters and reopen the road to resume work in the two locations.

A reporter for the News Video Agency stated that the demonstrations are occurring for the second consecutive week demanding the kerosene price be restored to 400 dinars instead of 1,200 dinars, considering that the increase harms the agricultural sector and raises production costs.

He added that the protesters are also demanding the payment of wheat crop dues for the past two seasons and the distribution of compensation to those affected by floods, rains, and hail from last season.

He continued that the farmers are also calling for the announcement of the agricultural season plan for 2026-2027, the fate of which remains uncertain.
