The Iraqi security forces announced today, Sunday, the arrest of a suspect for practicing witchcraft and sorcery, and the arrest of three suspects involved in an extortion case, during two separate operations in the capital, Baghdad.
The Ministry of Interior stated in a statement received by the "Video News Agency" that the Baghdad Rusafa Police Command units, through the Third Sadr Criminal Investigation Department, managed to arrest a suspect practicing witchcraft and sorcery in one of the areas of Rusafa, following precise field surveillance.
It noted that tools and materials used for such practices were found in the possession of the suspect, who has been detained at the relevant police station to undertake the necessary legal procedures against her.
In a related context, the Baghdad Karkh Police Command announced that the University Neighborhood Rescue units managed to apprehend three suspects who attempted to extort a citizen by threatening to publish personal videos and photos of him in exchange for monetary amounts.
The command stated in a statement received by the "Video News Agency" that the operation came after a call for help was made through the response number 911, wherein the rescue units promptly moved to the scene of the incident, managed to track down the suspects, and arrested them before they could receive five million dinars from the victim.
The police highlighted that the amount was seized, and necessary legal procedures were taken against the suspects, who were referred to the relevant authorities to complete the legal processes.
