The popular and political circles in Baghdad are eagerly awaiting the departure of American forces, scheduled for September 30, according to the timelines agreed upon between Baghdad and Washington, amidst varying opinions regarding the field and political implications of this step.
One citizen said in a statement to the Video News Agency that the withdrawal of American military forces represents a public commitment between the two parties after the completion of their mission, noting that Baghdad insists on the continued presence of military advisors to provide training and technical support as part of a strategic agreement, due to the country's ongoing need to confront the ISIS terrorist organization and curb its activities to prevent any security breaches.
For his part, civil activist Ali Al-Mamouri emphasized that the withdrawal represents a new shift that requires reliance on the established agreements, stressing that internal stability is linked to the readiness of Iraqi forces, including the army, police, and popular mobilization forces, along with the necessity of restricting weapons to the state and shifting towards enhancing agriculture and industry while overcoming political quotas.
