The local markets in the capital Baghdad have witnessed a noticeable rise in the prices of bags, clothing, and school supplies as the start of the new academic year approaches, burdening families and those with limited incomes.

Citizen Abbas, who owns one of the retail shops, told the news agency that the decision to postpone the school year has directly impacted the buying and selling activity and caused a stagnation in the markets. He noted that the increase in rents, generator fees, and the prices of goods has contributed to a decrease in customer interest and purchases of essential supplies.

Another citizen confirmed that daily family income does not match the rising prices of stationery, clothing, and shoes, calling on the federal government to intervene quickly to control the markets and regulate price manipulators before the academic year begins.
