The Egyptian actress Salwa Khattab revealed details about her relationship with her late husband, director Osama Fawzy, the reasons for their separation after years of friendship and marriage, and her stance on not having children. She confirmed that her connection with him was a choice stemming from love and that his memories and his human and artistic stature "are still present in her life despite the end of their marriage."
Khattab mentioned that her relationship with Fawzy began as a friendship that lasted about 15 years, before they married for five years, noting that their relationship was not limited to personal life, as they also collaborated in the artistic field, producing one film together.
Regarding the reasons for their separation, she explained in a television interview on Monday that the relationship experienced differences in ideas and the nature of their interactions, given their belonging to the artistic community and each having their own individuality. She pointed out that she felt at that stage that she had exhausted her ability to endure after many years of knowing him, clarifying that she did not want to marry again and focused on her artistic works.
The Egyptian actress also addressed her decision not to have children, explaining that she had hoped her relationship with Fawzy would bear children, but things did not go that way. She affirmed that she views what happened as destiny and does not see it from the perspective of "tragedy or regret."
Furthermore, Khattab stated that she "had gotten used to dealing with crises with a cheerful spirit, trying to find the positive aspects in difficult experiences, as not having children may ultimately have been in her favor or perhaps spared her burdens and responsibilities she was not ready for," as she put it.
She clarified that she had not thought about marrying again for the sake of having children, as she feared the responsibility of raising kids and the commitment required to provide care and attention.
She also mentioned that her fears were linked to the social environment in which children live and her ability to provide a suitable life for them given the difficulties she observes in society. She added: "I was scared... if I am struggling in the society I live in, how will I raise children?" She considered that "motherhood requires great dedication and effort," but she acknowledged at the same time that this view may not necessarily be correct, but rather reflects her personal convictions and fears.
The Egyptian actress graduated from the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts in 1978, before starting her artistic journey that spanned decades, transitioning between cinema, television, and theater, where she presented a number of prominent cinematic works, including "Darb el-Hawa", "Al-Arajoz", "Katibat al-I’dam", and "Al-Saher," in which she co-starred with Mahmoud Abdel Aziz.
On television, she participated in several series that gained wide popularity, most notably "Raafat El-Hagan," "El-Daw' El-Shared," "Hadith El-Sabah wal-Masaa," "Hadrit El-Muhtarim," "Sijn El-Nisa," and "Niran Sadiqa."
In recent years, she continued to be present in drama through works such as "Mamlakat Iblis," "Ayyam," "Manwara Bi-Ahlaha," "W'oud Sukhiyya," and "Sodfa."
