The Jordanian security agencies announced today, Monday, the arrest of three suspects involved in the armed attack that targeted St. George's Church in the village of Hamoud in Karak Governorate, which resulted in the deaths of nine people and injuries to 25 others.
Jordanian television reported that a joint security operation carried out by specialized investigation and raid teams resulted in the arrest of the three suspects and their injury after a three-hour standoff inside an abandoned building in the city of Karak.
For his part, Jordanian Interior Minister Mazen Al-Farraya confirmed that security agencies managed to identify the suspects since the beginning of the investigations, noting that they were seriously injured during the arrest operation.
The Jordanian General Security stated that firearms and ammunition were seized at the location where the suspects were found, while search and combing operations continued after the attack to track down those involved.
Three armed men had attacked participants in a funeral inside St. George's Church in Hamoud on Friday, firing heavily, which led to the deaths of nine people and 25 injuries before fleeing the scene.
Following the incident, Jordanian King Abdullah II described the attack as terrorist, vowing to impose the severest penalties on those involved, while the government declared a national mourning period of three days.
