The Vatican announced today, Thursday, that Pope Leo XIV, who is recovering from surgery to remove a cancerous tumor in his lung, spent a stable night in the hospital and was able to have breakfast.

Western media reported, citing the Vatican today, that Pope Leo has been diagnosed with pulmonary adenocarcinoma, which is the most common type of lung cancer, while doctors removed the lower lobe of his right lung during a surgical procedure that took place on Tuesday.

The Vatican confirmed that the surgical operation on the 71-year-old pope was successful, with no complications recorded.
