The technical agent of the Ministry of Environment, Jawad Al-Jabouri, confirmed today, Saturday, that the ministry currently has "online" air pollution monitoring stations in the capital, Baghdad, noting that work is underway to expand the air quality monitoring project to include all Iraqi governorates.

Al-Jabouri said in a press statement obtained by the "Video News Agency" that the ministry is currently monitoring air pollution in the capital Baghdad, and we have noticed a decrease in air pollution levels.

He pointed out that the ministry has regulatory powers over the entities responsible for environmental pollution, according to the applicable laws, and is working to monitor and record cases of pollution in Baghdad and the governorates.

It is noteworthy that many areas of Baghdad suffer from air pollution, especially during the summer season, amid accusations against the Ministry of Environment for not intensifying monitoring of pollution sources.

The "Green Iraq" observatory, specialized in environmental issues, had previously revealed the weak environmental oversight on industrial and investment activities in the capital Baghdad, pointing out that they contribute to elevated pollution levels in some of its areas.
