Member of Parliament, Enam Alaa Al-Din, confirmed today, Saturday, that Iraq is in urgent need of well-studied and comprehensive economic plans and strategies to address the financial crisis and monetary imbalances, stressing the rejection of resorting to manipulating currency exchange rates and burdening citizens and vulnerable classes with additional burdens to address the financial deficit.

Alaa Al-Din stated in a press interview that she discussed with "Video News Agency" that "addressing the economic challenges and financial pressures facing the country cannot be done through patchwork and easy solutions that directly affect the livelihood of the ordinary citizen," noting that "changing the exchange rate of the dollar against the dinar immediately impacts the markets and triggers a sharp wave of inflation that strikes the prices of essential goods and food items."

She added that "the government and relevant economic authorities are required to look for real and sustainable alternatives to maximize the state's public revenues away from the pockets of citizens, foremost among which is activating productive sectors such as industry and agriculture, controlling border crossings and customs, recovering wasted funds, and reducing rampant corruption in financial and commercial transactions."

The deputy emphasized that "the parliament is pushing to compel financial institutions and the central bank to adopt prudent monetary policies that protect the national currency and maintain the stability of the citizens' purchasing power," noting that "any attempt to place the burden of financial and administrative failures on the citizen through exchange rate mechanisms will face widespread parliamentary and popular rejection, as it directly affects living and social stability."
