The Egyptian House of Representatives is holding an urgent general session tomorrow, Sunday, in response to a request from President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to authorize him to intervene militarily in defense of Saudi Arabia.
These developments come after el-Sisi's statements today regarding the security of Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states, where he affirmed Egypt's rejection of any aggression against them, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the security and stability of Arab countries.
El-Sisi confirmed, in statements during a graduation ceremony for a new class from the military academy, Egypt's full support for the protection and defense of the territories of the Gulf countries, stressing that Cairo is not seeking war or to attack any party, but rather focusing on defending Arab countries and protecting their security and stability.
He clarified that any potential military move requires the approval of the House of Representatives, calling for an emergency session of parliament to grant the necessary authorization if needed.
El-Sisi stated: "We stand firmly and fully supportive to protect the lands of our brothers in the Gulf and defend them. I want to tell the whole world, we are not looking for a role to play, but it is absolutely unreasonable for us to hear that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is being harmed or its security or stability is being threatened."
He added, directing his message to the Gulf states: "I say and direct my message to everyone in the Gulf to stop this ongoing war, but regardless of that call or hope, Egypt, according to the directives of King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, will take any measures to protect you and defend you."
