The construction and development bloc, associated with former Prime Minister Mohammed Shiya Al-Sudani, decided today, Monday, to suspend its attendance at the sessions of the House of Representatives, conditional on referring a deputy to the parliamentary conduct committee before resuming attendance.
The bloc stated in a statement received by "Video News Agency" that "the parliamentary construction and development bloc follows with great condemnation and rejection the systematic violations and irresponsible behaviors that some MPs insist on practicing, which represent a blatant deviation from the principles of parliamentary work and the rules of political competition, and fall within the framework of malicious slander campaigns and systematic targeting of the construction and development coalition and its leadership."
It added, "The bloc has been keen, throughout the past phase, to rise above responding and to prioritize the language of wisdom and dialogue; at the same time, it submitted an official memorandum to the Speaker of the House of Representatives requesting the referral of the concerned deputy to the parliamentary conduct committee, but no practical measures were taken, which encouraged him to continue the insults. This imposes on the Speaker of the House of Representatives and his deputies today to take a firm and responsible stance to put an end to these practices."
It indicated, "Accordingly, the parliamentary construction and development bloc announces the suspension of its attendance at the sessions of the House of Representatives, and will not resume its participation except with the application of legal procedures according to the internal regulations of the council, ensuring the cessation of these violations, safeguarding the dignity of parliamentary work, and preserving the respect of political forces and their leadership."
The bloc accuses some MPs of attacking its leader Mohammed Shiya Al-Sudani through the media.
