Iranian citizens set fire today, Thursday, to a giant banner featuring images of U.S. President Donald Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, and U.S. envoy Steve Whitcomb, in the capital Tehran.
A journalist from the French Press Agency reported that the incident occurred following Trump's and his party's defeat in the U.S. midterm elections, amidst public reactions to political developments in the United States.
Photos taken by the French Press Agency showed flames consuming the large banner, as a number of citizens gathered around it, taking pictures and videos of the incident with their mobile phones.
Iranian state television also broadcast footage showing the banner burning amidst crowds of citizens waving flags, coinciding with public gatherings that took place in the capital.
In this context, thousands of Iranians gathered on Wednesday in front of the former U.S. embassy in Tehran, burning flags of the United States and Israel while chanting slogans against both countries.
These actions come amid ongoing tensions between Tehran and Washington as well as Tel Aviv, after Trump acknowledged on Wednesday that the war his country is waging alongside Israel against Iran significantly contributed to the electoral defeat, pointing to the repercussions of the war, particularly its effects on energy prices and the economy.
