The Earthquake Monitoring Department of the Iraqi Meteorological Organization announced today, Thursday, that (102) earthquakes were recorded, with (57) quakes occurring inside Iraq and (45) quakes outside Iraq near its borders during the month of July 2026.

The organization stated in a statement received by the "Video News Agency" that the activity was clearly concentrated in Kirkuk Governorate, where (32) earthquakes were recorded in regions such as Daquq and others. This was followed by Sulaymaniyah Governorate with (8) earthquakes recorded in areas such as (Kalar, Darbandikhan, and Sharazur), and then Diyala Governorate with (5) earthquakes in the Khanquin area.

It noted that (4) earthquakes were recorded in Erbil Governorate within the areas of (Koysanjak, Juman, and Shaqlawa), and (4) earthquakes in Nineveh Governorate within the areas of (Telkeef, Sinjar, and Al-Hadr), while one earthquake was recorded in each of the governorates of Wasit (Al-Kut), Maysan (Amarah), Basra (Al-Qurna), and Dhi Qar (Al-Rifai).

It pointed out that the western and southwestern regions of Iraq were free from any seismic activity during the month of July due to the nature of the movement of the Arabian Plate and Iraq's position relative to it, as seismic activity gradually increases towards the continental collision areas, especially in the north and northeast of the country.

Among the recorded tremors outside Iraq, (29) earthquakes occurred within Iranian territory in the provinces of (Ilam, Lorestan, Kermanshah, Kurdistan, and Azerbaijan) near the Iraqi border, according to the statement, while (16) earthquakes were recorded within Turkish territory in areas of (Van, Sirnak, and Hakkari) near the Iraqi border.
