Mr. Khamenei approves the pardon of 2,577 convicts on the occasion of the anniversary of the birth of the Prophet (PBUH) and Imam Al-Sadiq (AS).

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, Mr. Mojtaba Khamenei, issued an order today, Tuesday, for amnesty and the reduction of sentences and the replacement of rulings against 2,577 convicts, coinciding with the anniversary of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and Imam Jaafar al-Sadiq (PBUH).

 
The Iranian judiciary stated in a statement followed by the News Video Agency that the head of the judiciary, Hojjatoleslam and Muslims Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejei, had requested the Leader of the Revolution for amnesty and the reduction of sentences and the replacement of rulings issued against a number of convicts in general and revolutionary courts, the judicial institution affiliated with the armed forces, and the government sanctions organization.
 
It added that the Leader of the Revolution entrusted the head of the judiciary with the authority to decide on the cases of the convicts covered by the request after completing the necessary legal procedures and reviews.
 
Following the required reviews, the head of the Iranian judiciary issued an order to implement the decisions of amnesty and the reduction of sentences and the replacement of rulings against those included, bringing the total number to 2,577 convicts.
 
The decision comes during the blessed days commemorating the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and Imam Jaafar al-Sadiq (PBUH), which are occasions that usually witness the issuance of decisions for amnesty or the reduction of sentences against a number of convicts in Iran.
