The Baghdad Governorate Council announced today, Thursday, its intention to take measures to organize the movement of freight vehicles and reduce traffic congestion at the entrances of the capital by regulating the entry times of heavy trucks and studying the allocation of special routes for them.
Council member Asil Al-Khalidi stated to the news agency that traffic congestion at the entrances of Baghdad, particularly during peak hours, requires practical measures to organize the movement of trucks and mitigate their impact on the movement of citizens.
She added that there is a plan to coordinate with the General Traffic Directorate and the relevant authorities to organize the entry times for heavy trucks to be from 4 PM to 4 AM, according to a mechanism to be adopted in coordination with the specialized authorities.
She indicated that the proposed measures include studying the determination of special routes for trucks, organizing entry and exit points, and enhancing traffic flow at entrances experiencing congestion, with monitoring of implementation and field evaluation of the results.
Al-Khalidi confirmed that these steps aim to facilitate the movement of citizens, employees, and students, achieve better traffic flow, ensure the continuity of goods movement and commercial activity, and maintain security requirements.
