Baghdad – Minister of Communications, Mustafa Sand, announced today, Thursday, the launch of the first Iraqi ground station for satellites in the capital Baghdad next Sunday, in a move aimed at enhancing national digital sovereignty.
Sand stated in a statement received by the Video News Agency that the ground station (Teleport) is dedicated to dealing with satellites located in geostationary orbit (GEO), confirming that the project comes as part of the ministry's vision to achieve Iraqi digital sovereignty.
The minister called on security and service institutions, government ministries, and private sector companies to adopt the station as a main gateway for data reception and transmission, instead of relying on international infrastructure outside the scope of national sovereignty.
He pointed out that the project paves the way for transitioning to the next phase of the national space sovereignty project, the details of which will be announced later.
