After being closed for 23 years.. a new road opens towards Tahrir Square in downtown Baghdad.

The General Traffic Directorate announced today, Thursday, the opening of a new road towards Tahrir Square in the center of the capital, Baghdad, after being closed since 2003.
The directorate mentioned in a statement that the head of the special committee for alleviating traffic congestion, Major General Adi Samir Al-Hussaini, opened the road based on the directives of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and the follow-up of the Minister of Interior.
It explained that the road runs parallel to the Republic Bridge towards Tahrir Square, near the Al-Aqidah School, noting that the necessary work has been completed and it has been prepared for vehicle movement.
It added that the opening of the road is part of efforts to address traffic congestion in the capital by providing alternative routes and improving the flow of traffic, which contributes to reducing congestion and facilitating citizen mobility.
