Former MP Fawzi Akram confirmed today, Thursday, that Kirkuk province is still being managed by a governor from the Turkmen component, according to the political agreement made between the main forces in the province, noting that the governor will continue his duties until the agreed-upon time period is completed.
Akram stated in a press statement followed by the News Video Agency, that Mohammed Siman, who currently holds a ministerial position in the government of Ali Al-Zaydi, is still the legally recognized governor of Kirkuk.
He added that the news circulating about voting to select a new governor is not accurate so far, confirming that Siman will remain in his position until the timeframe specified in the political agreement among the represented forces in the province comes to an end.
He pointed out that Kirkuk includes multiple Iraqi components, including Arabs, Turkmen, and Kurds, clarifying that the political agreement organizes the timelines for assuming the governorship among these components.
Akram concluded his remarks by affirming that the governor will remain in his position until the end of this year, until the specified time period in the agreement is completed.
