The Ministry of Electricity announced today, Tuesday, that the principles agreement with Siemens includes new projects to establish combined cycle plants and thermal plants.
The ministry stated in a statement received by the Video News Agency that "under the sponsorship of Prime Minister Ali Falah Al-Zaydi, Minister of Electricity Ali Saadi Wahib signed today, Tuesday, in the German capital Berlin, the principles of cooperation with Siemens Energy AG as part of the energy program in Iraq – Phase Four, to continue cooperation in developing the electricity sector and production and transmission projects."
It added that "the principles of cooperation include new projects in the production sector, comprising plants that operate on a combined cycle and others that are thermal, utilizing high-efficiency technologies and benefiting from available fuel types in Iraq, in addition to selecting project locations that allow for the utilization of existing infrastructure and transmission networks and fuel pipelines."
It pointed out that "in the transmission sector, the principles include the provision and installation of new transmission stations in various regions of Iraq according to the submitted study and the needs of the Ministry of Electricity, alongside enhancing the efficiency of existing transmission stations, addressing electrical network bottlenecks, and improving the response speed to emergency failures."
It clarified that "it also includes the continuation of maintenance contracts for operating production stations, which contributes to supporting the system, enhancing efficiency, and increasing the available production capacity, as well as discussing mechanisms for financing projects and implementing programs to train and develop the staff of the Ministry of Electricity and enhance their capabilities in various specialties."
