The Syrian Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management issued a warning today, Tuesday, to residents on both sides of the Euphrates River.
The ministry stated in a statement obtained by the news agency that "residents of Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor, particularly those living near the Euphrates stream, have been warned of an expected additional rise in water levels due to increased quantities being released from the Kdeiran Dam as water continues to flow from the Turkish side."
It added that "the General Organization for the Euphrates Dam will begin, starting today, Tuesday, to gradually release water through the dam at a rate of 1100 cubic meters per second, with the quantity expected to rise to 1200 cubic meters per second after a week, continuing until mid next month based on water and operational data."
The ministry urged residents to "stay away from the river stream and high waters, avoid swimming, watch children, and move nearby agricultural equipment and machinery to higher and safer places."
The rains this year had previously caused flooding in the Euphrates and water entering homes in Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor, submerging crops before harvest.
