The Administrative Court in Egypt rejected the lawsuit to revoke the license of the film "The Lady" and to stop its screening, and obliged the plaintiffs to pay the costs and attorney fees. The lawsuit was filed by a number of Umm Kulthum's descendants, who objected to what they considered an offense to the artist and her family. The court stated, after watching the entire film, that the claims made by the plaintiffs regarding the offense to Umm Kulthum and her reputation have no basis in reality. It confirmed that the work presented a generally positive image of the artist and her family, and that depicting moments of weakness or failure does not detract from her status. The court clarified that "The Lady" is a dramatic work, not a documentary film, and it is not required that all its details match historical facts as long as it is inspired by reality. It also considered that its content falls within the realm of artistic freedom protected by the constitution.
