The Federal Integrity Commission reported today, Thursday, the conclusion of the sixth session of the Conference of States Parties to the Arab Convention against Corruption in the Qatari capital, Doha.
The commission stated in a statement received by the News Video Agency, "The sixth session of the Conference of States Parties to the Arab Convention against Corruption concluded in the Qatari capital, Doha, with participation from 15 member states of the convention, in addition to candidate countries for accession."
According to the statement, the words of the heads of the participating delegations emphasized "the necessity of maintaining the gains of the convention as it represents the most important legal framework for combating transnational crime in the Arab world, calling for strengthening joint cooperation and adopting innovative initiatives that limit corruption, and finding ways to ensure the prosecution of its perpetrators, leading to the rule of law and protecting the resources of nations."
The statement noted that "the Iraqi delegation, headed by the Chairman of the Federal Integrity Commission, Dr. (Mohammad Ali Al-Lami), made a significant presence in most sessions of the conference and accompanying events, represented by the ninth meeting of the General Committee of Government Experts and representatives of independent bodies in the States Parties to the convention, and the Arab Forum for Enhancing Prevention of Corruption, where Iraq presented its experience in preparing codes of conduct and their impact on the behavior of public sector employees as a tool for preventing corruption. The Director-General of the Prevention Department (Jalal Mousa) presented a detailed presentation on the general codes of conduct that include all state employees, and the specific codes that include workers within specific sectors as needed."
It continued that "the speeches of the participating delegation heads focused on the necessity of transforming the commitments of the States Parties into tangible practical measures, activating accountability mechanisms, and ensuring that there are no safe havens for laundered funds, stressing the importance of concerted efforts to break the backbone of transnational corruption, while affirming that the outcomes of the conference represent a roadmap for sustaining transparency through enhancing technology in oversight, supporting the independence of national oversight institutions, and ensuring the continuity of high-level coordination among Arab and international organizations, to protect the economies of Arab world countries."
It added that "the conference adopted a number of decisions, foremost among which is the decision concerning enhancing international cooperation in combating corruption by expediting responses to requests for mutual legal assistance, and the decision concerning enhancing the transparency of beneficial ownership and identifying beneficial owners in legal entities and arrangements, along with other decisions related to previous meetings of the convention and the time and place of the seventh session."
