The Supreme Judicial Council announced today, Thursday, the directive to the competent courts to apply the harshest penalties against violators on the roads, in addition to tightening the procedures regarding assaults on Baghdad Municipality personnel.
The judiciary mentioned in a statement received by the News Video Agency that the Supreme Judicial Council held its tenth session, chaired by the President of the Federal Court of Cassation, Judge Faik Zidan, during which it commemorated the late Deputy Attorney General at the Attorney General’s office in Diyala, Ahmed Mahmoud Abdul, and the retired judge, the late Sabah Nouri Nasser, who passed away.
The statement issued from the session noted that “a number of esteemed judges and members of the public prosecution were promoted, in addition to transfers, granting judicial positions, and approving formations based on public interest requirements.”
The statement added that the Council reviewed the Baghdad Municipality's letter concerning violations of road prohibitions and areas designated for public benefit, and directed the relevant investigative courts to take strict legal measures and to consider the application of the crime of violation of public road prohibitions and causing damage to them, pointing out that this is "in accordance with the provisions of the Public Roads Law No. (35) of 2002, in addition to the penalties stipulated in the Iraqi Penal Code No. (111) of 1969 regarding violations related to roads and areas designated for public benefit."
Regarding the Baghdad Municipality personnel, the Council called on the courts to “tighten procedures regarding crimes of assault on Baghdad Municipality personnel while they are executing and rehabilitating those projects in accordance with the provisions of Articles (229) and (230) of the Penal Code.”
