Iraq is exploring cultural and tourism cooperation with the Maldives.

Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein discussed on Friday with Maldives Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam ways to enhance bilateral relations and expand tourism and cultural cooperation, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The Foreign Ministry stated in a statement received by the Video News Agency that the meeting discussed strengthening political consultation and coordination between the two countries, as well as exploring the possibility of signing a tourism cooperation agreement between Iraq and the Maldives.

The ministry added that the Maldives Foreign Minister confirmed her participation in the meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation scheduled to be held in Baghdad next October, expressing her anticipation for participating in this meeting.

It clarified that both sides praised the level of existing coordination in the field of mutual support for nominations in international organizations and exchanged views on supporting Iraq's nominations for several international positions and memberships.
