Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov today, Friday, to discuss bilateral cooperation and regional developments in New York.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry stated in a statement received by the News Video Agency that the meeting assessed the reality of bilateral cooperation in the political, economic, trade, transport, and energy sectors, commending the Russian position opposing the unilateral American approach and the exploitation of international organizations to exert pressure on independent countries.
According to the statement, Araqchi informed his Russian counterpart about the latest developments in the negotiations and understanding between Iran and Oman regarding the establishment of a secure maritime corridor in the Strait of Hormuz, as well as the mediation efforts and the transfer of necessary elements to return to the diplomatic track.
Araqchi emphasized that the state of insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz is directly related to the United States violating its commitments, stressing that Iran, as it has shown its diplomatic seriousness, is determined to defend its interests and national security.
For his part, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reaffirmed his country's principled stance condemning the US and Israeli military aggression against Iran, emphasizing the importance of all countries adhering to international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter.
