Poland's Interior Minister announced on Sunday the arrest of the man who planned an attack on Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
The Polish Interior Ministry earlier on Sunday stated that police suspect that Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defense Minister Włodzisław Kosiniak-Kamysz were targeted for assassination.
Interior Ministry spokeswoman Karolina Gałejka stated on the "X" platform that the ministry has directed authorities to take action "in light of information received (by the police) regarding a potential assassination attempt on the Prime Minister as well as the Deputy Prime Minister," who also holds the defense portfolio.
Representatives from the police, the State Protection Agency, and the Internal Security Agency participated in the meeting held on Sunday.
The spokesman for the Polish Minister for the Coordination of Special Security Services, Jacek Dąbrowski, told reporters after the meeting, "We are treating this matter very seriously."
He added, "Month by month, and year by year, the police, the State Protection Agency, and security services receive more threats and messages containing various threats targeting Poland and Poles."
He continued, "In this case, we are talking about a significant likelihood that these threats may indeed be carried out."
Poland, a member of NATO and the European Union, is in a state of high alert following a series of stabbing attacks that occurred last week, which Tusk condemned, considering them part of a "culture of violence."
