Rafael Gluksman won, on Sunday, the primary elections of the Socialist-Democratic camp in which five candidates participated, with 66.13 percent, making him the nominee for this camp in the 2027 presidential elections. The internal voting took place over three days from Friday to Sunday.

Rafael Gluksman earned the honor of representing the socialists and traditional moderate left in the 2027 French presidential elections after winning an internal ballot held over three days with 66.13 percent, from Friday to Sunday, with 140,000 registered voters invited to participate.

Those who participated in this primary election included: Olivier Faure (the First Secretary of the Socialist Party), Ségolène Royal (a former presidential candidate), and Jérôme Guedj (a Member of the European Parliament) from the Socialist Party, Emmanuel Morel from the Republican Socialist Left, and Rafael Gluksman from the "Public Square" movement.

Although these elections are referred to as being for the socialists, they also included two smaller leftist parties, namely "Public Square" and "Republican Socialist Left".

After the vote, he told party activists: "I am the candidate who represents a break with 'Macron's policies', the candidate who represents a break with Jean-Luc Mélenchon's dominance over the French left, and the candidate capable of defeating our arch-enemy, the far-right movement."

The aim of the primary elections is to spare the left camp, away from the "France Unyielding" party, from entering the 2027 presidential race divided among a group of names, which diminishes its chances of competing with candidates from the major political parties, primarily the far-right National Rally led by its candidate Marine Le Pen, who is given a decent chance of winning in the second round of the upcoming presidential elections.

Gluksman opposes any alliance with Mélenchon and has led the main current of the left to secure 14 percent of French seats in the 2024 European Parliament elections.
Polls indicate that he may qualify for the runoff on May 2 in the presidential elections, but he will lose to the more favored candidate, Marine Le Pen.
