The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research denied today, Sunday, the validity of what some pages and social media platforms have circulated regarding the dismissal of the Dean of the College of Medicine at the University of Basra or his removal in light of recent events, confirming that this news is unfounded and not based on official information.

The ministry said in a statement received by the News Video Agency that the Minister of Higher Education, Haider Baha Al-Husseini, in coordination with the President of the University of Basra, Aqeel Fahim Al-Dahan, made a phone call with a representative of the students of the College of Medicine at the University of Basra, where he discussed their demands and listened to their viewpoints, emphasizing the importance of dialogue and understanding in addressing the issues raised in a way that preserves the educational process and ensures its continuity.

It added that the students expressed during the call their willingness to withdraw from the strike and return to their studies and continue their academic journey, driven by their concern for their scientific and professional future.

It continued that the Minister of Higher Education stressed the importance of responsibly addressing the students' demands and adopting constructive dialogue in dealing with the issues they face, calling on faculty members and university administrations to engage positively with them and to act with a responsible educational and academic spirit.

The ministry and the Presidency of the University of Basra emphasized, according to the statement, their commitment to caring for students and listening to their aspirations through the recognized legal and official channels, appreciating what professors and teaching bodies contribute in terms of scholarly and humanitarian efforts.

The ministry called on the media and social media users to exercise accuracy in transmitting information, to obtain news from their accredited official sources, and to refrain from circulating unverified news that could affect the stability of the university environment, confirming that issues are addressed in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations.
