Former national teams coach, Rady Shneeshil, warned of the potential negative consequences of postponing the Asian Cup scheduled to be held in Saudi Arabia, asserting that the Iraqi national team would be the most affected by this decision, given the current coach's contract is tied to the end of the tournament.
Shneeshil said in a statement followed by the Video News Agency that postponing the tournament might actually benefit the coach, as his contract lasts for six months and expires at the end of the competitions, which could negatively impact the team's preparations and technical stability.
He added that the postponement could provide the Iraqi Football Association an opportunity to reassess the coaching staff and search for another coach, allowing for better preparation of the team for upcoming challenges and World Cup qualifiers through participation in the Asian Cup.
Regarding the list of the national team participating in the quadrangular tournament set to be held in Basra, Shneeshil clarified that player selection falls within the technical authority of the coach, asserting that the selection of players depends on his technical vision and their readiness and ability to represent the team.
