The Kurdistan Democratic Party confirmed today, Wednesday, that the reactivation of the Kurdistan Region Parliament represents a necessary step to protect the constitutional entity of the region, emphasizing the need to respect the will of the citizens and the democratic process.
The party's spokesperson, Mahmoud Mohammed, stated in a statement followed by the News Video Agency that "the reactivation of the parliament is a delayed yet necessary step to maintain the constitutional entity of the Kurdistan Region," noting that the legislative institution represents the voices and will of the citizens, but has been inactive for two years due to political decisions made by the leaderships of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and the New Generation Movement.
He added that the majority of parliament members from various blocs succeeded, based on their national responsibility and respect for the voices of citizens and their commitment to the legal oath, in reactivating the democratic process and putting an end to the legal vacuum.
He pointed out that the resumption of the parliament's work came at a time when several parliamentarians and their family members faced threats, considering this a dangerous indicator that threatens democracy and the will of the citizens in the region.
Mohammed affirmed that the reactivation of the parliament does not target any person or political entity, and that its doors are open to all parties, urging other political blocs to take positive stances and participate in maintaining the legitimacy of the region and its constitutional entity.
He concluded by stating that this step represents an incentive to bear shared responsibility, enhance unity and internal cohesion, and bring perspectives closer to serve the citizens of the Kurdistan Region and its future.
