The Minister of Water Resources discusses with the British Ambassador the development of the water sector in Iraq.

The Minister of Water Resources, Dr. Muthana Al-Tamimi, discussed today with the UK Ambassador to Baghdad, Mr. Irfan Siddiq, ways to enhance joint cooperation between the two countries and improve the status of the water resources sector in Iraq, in the presence of the accompanying delegation of the ambassador. During the meeting, the minister emphasized the importance of transitioning from traditional methods to adopting modern and advanced technologies in water resource management and working on developing irrigation projects in line with the current challenges facing the sector. He noted that the Ministry of Water Resources represents a fundamental pillar in providing services to citizens, which requires keeping pace with the exceptional changes that have occurred in the irrigation landscape due to drought crises and climate changes, and enhancing the efficiency of water resource management to ensure sustainability. The Minister of Water Resources stressed the importance of benefiting from British expertise and specialized companies in this field, particularly in reevaluating and rehabilitating the storage control systems in Iraq, as well as implementing electronic governance systems in managing dams and barriers, which contributes to improving performance efficiency and enhancing modern management of water resources. For his part, the British Ambassador expressed his country's keenness to provide the necessary support and expertise to Iraq, affirming the importance of intensifying meetings and official visits between the two sides to enhance joint cooperation and support efforts to develop and modernize the water resources sector.
