A new study published in the journal npj Aging has sparked a wave of discussions about the limits of human capabilities and the possibility of their continuation with aging.

Scientists have concluded, using mathematical modeling methods, that the theoretical maximum human lifespan may reach around 146 years, and in some scenarios could even rise to 194 years.

However, the authors of the study caution against interpreting these results, explaining that these numbers are merely mathematical estimates resulting from a mathematical model and are not practical evidence that modern medicine or lifestyle changes can allow humans to live nearly two centuries.

The official recorded world record for human lifespan remains with French woman Jeanne Calment, who died in 1997 at the age of 122, a figure that the new predictions still significantly surpass.

The new model relied on analyzing somatic mutations, which are genetic changes that naturally accumulate in the body's cells throughout a person's life. According to the American National Cancer Institute, these mutations occur after fertilization during cell division and are influenced by various environmental factors. While most do not cause direct harm, some may accelerate tissue aging and increase the risk of cancer and age-related diseases.

Instead of searching for a specific age at which the human "biological clock" stops, scientists tried to determine the upper limit of lifespan under ideal biological conditions. The modeling revealed that the rate of damage accumulation within cells plays a crucial role in determining longevity, opening new avenues for understanding the mechanisms of aging, with researchers emphasizing that this hypothesis needs further experimental testing.

Unlike some personal experiments in the field of "biohacking," such as those conducted by entrepreneur Bryan Johnson, this academic study does not propose specific diets, supplements, or exercise programs that claim to extend lifespan to 146 years, but aims to understand the biological foundations of aging.

Scientists confirm that there is currently no clinically proven intervention that can radically expand the natural limits of human lifespan.

Even if the theoretical lifespans of 194 years are not realized, studying the mechanisms of aging may help develop treatments that extend what is known as the "healthspan," or the years a person lives with vitality, independence, and minimal illness, which is a goal that goes beyond merely increasing the number of years lived.

Experts urge a distinction between evidence-based scientific research and unproven personal experiences, emphasizing that the best-known ways to maintain health include following a balanced diet, engaging in regular physical activity, getting sufficient sleep, avoiding smoking and alcohol, along with timely screenings and disease prevention.
