In a striking health warning, an American neurologist revealed three foods he completely avoids to maintain his brain health, noting that one of them could be lethal in some cases.
The neurologist, Dr. Paiping Chen, known as "Dr. Ping" on social media, recently shared a list of foods he avoids on his Instagram account, emphasizing that the brain - the organ responsible for controlling all body functions, movements, thoughts, and emotions - deserves special care, and that proper nutrition plays a crucial role in maintaining its health.
In the video, the doctor mentioned a type of food he completely steers clear of, which carries a risk of paralysis, vision loss, and in rare cases, death.
Dr. Chen warned against canned foods in damaged cans, i.e., those that have suffered physical damage, such as bulging, cracking, or deep dents.
Dr. Chen states: "If the can is bulging, cracked, or has deep dents, that’s a warning sign of contamination with bacteria called Clostridium botulinum which causes botulism poisoning."
He explains that this bacteria produces botulinum toxin, one of the most potent toxins known to humanity, as a tiny amount can disrupt the nerve signals between the brain and muscles, leading to flaccid paralysis, blurred vision, respiratory failure, and potentially death if not treated with the appropriate antitoxin.
The biggest danger lies in the fact that this toxin is tasteless and odorless, meaning it is impossible to detect contamination just by looking at or smelling the food, and even if the food is heated well, the heat may not be sufficient to neutralize the toxin, making discarding the can entirely the only safe option.
