Diesel prices at fuel stations in the European Union have reached a new record level of €2.23 per liter, compared to €2.16 the previous week, according to an analysis by the French news agency "AFP" of national data published by the European Commission this Thursday.
Based on this data, which has been published weekly since 2005, record prices were recorded in 19 of the 27 EU countries, including Germany, France, and Italy, driven by energy shocks resulting from the war in the Middle East and the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
Among the new record thresholds, Denmark and Finland recorded the highest prices, with the price of a liter of diesel (also known as gas oil) in each at €2.56, followed by Germany (€2.46), then Belgium and France (around €2.40) and Italy (around €2.30).
Other countries like Spain and Sweden have seen price increases, but they remain below the peak recorded in 2022, following the widespread Russian invasion of Ukraine.
This data is published by the European Commission's Oil Bulletin after it is obtained from national authorities, and generally reflects fuel station price levels at the beginning of the week or the end of the previous week.
