A source confirmed the arrival of gasoline shipments to the Syrian port of Baniyas, in preparation for transporting them to Iraq via tankers.
The source stated in a statement that the shipments arrived at the port as part of the process to import the first batch of gasoline through Syrian territory, noting that the loading operations began in preparation for transporting it to Iraq.
He added that the import of gasoline is part of measures to secure the local market's need for petroleum derivatives, pointing out that details regarding quantities, the supplying entity, and the method of bringing the shipments into Iraq will become clear upon the completion of transport operations.
According to the source, fuel transport tankers began loading operations at Baniyas port, and they are expected to head to Iraqi territory after completing the necessary procedures.
Baghdad and several Iraqi provinces have been experiencing a gasoline supply crisis for weeks, following a temporary easing in the markets last month, amidst ongoing fuel shortages affecting various regions in the country.
Earlier this month, Oil Minister Bassam Mohammed Al-Abadi confirmed that efforts are underway to address the shortage of gasoline, mentioning that shipments of gasoline will soon arrive in Iraq.
