The Communications and Media Commission announced today, Tuesday, the extension of the deadline granted to users of Kurk Telecom SIM cards until November 1, 2026, in response to a request from the Transport and Communications Committee in the Iraqi Parliament, granting users additional time to complete the necessary procedures to secure their accounts and digital services linked to the company's numbers.
The Commission stated in a statement received by the Baghdad News Agency that it had set the end of September as the deadline for the previous grace period before starting to deactivate the company’s exchanges, but it decided to extend the deadline until November 1, 2026, in response to the letter from the parliamentary Transport and Communications Committee, taking into account the interests of users and giving them extra time to complete the necessary measures to secure their accounts and digital services.
The Commission also called on Kurk users who rely on their numbers to receive verification and authentication codes and account recovery to take advantage of the additional time by adding a number belonging to one of the two licensed mobile phone companies, Asiacell or Zain Iraq, to the applications and platforms that allow registering more than one number.
The Commission clarified regarding applications and platforms that do not allow adding more than one number to update the registered number for verification, authentication, and account recovery purposes, while keeping the Kurk number and not abandoning it whenever possible, in addition to activating alternative recovery methods such as email and authentication applications.
The Commission affirmed that November 1, 2026, represents the new deadline expiration, after which the regulatory and legal procedures related to the deactivation of Kurk Telecom's exchanges will be completed, urging users not to delay in securing their digital accounts until the last days.
The Commission reiterated that these measures do not involve urging users to destroy Kurk SIM cards or abandon their numbers, but rather aim to protect their access to their accounts and digital services while preserving the rights of users and the state in accordance with applicable legal and regulatory frameworks.
