The members of the Kurdistan Parliament voted today, Wednesday, to elect Vala Farid Ibrahim, the candidate from the Kurdistan Democratic Party, as the President of the Parliament, while Rami Nuri Audish was elected as Vice President, and Mona Nabi Nader as the Secretary of the Presidential Board, with the three candidates receiving 52 votes.
A reporter from the news agency Video reported that the direct voting process resulted in the candidates winning by an absolute majority during the first session of parliament dedicated to electing a new presidential board.
The session took place amidst a boycott by the two blocs of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and the New Generation Movement, while the Kurdistan Democratic Party bloc and a number of independent deputies and other blocs participated.
The reporter clarified that the oldest member, belonging to the New Generation Movement, refused to chair the session, so another deputy took over its management after the legal quorum of half plus one was completed.

Vala Farid Ibrahim, born in Erbil in 1976, returns to the presidency of the parliament after a previous experience in 2019, when she became the first woman to hold the position in the history of the Kurdistan Region, before moving to the position of Minister of the Region for Parliamentary Affairs.
As for Rami Nuri Audish, he represents the Chaldean Christian component and won the Christian quota seat in Erbil during the 2024 elections, while Mona Nabi Nader belongs to the Turkmen component and previously served as Secretary of the Parliament in 2019.
The election of the presidential board comes as part of completing the constitutional and political entitlements in the Kurdistan Region and moving towards forming a new government after the legislative elections held in 2024.
