The Diyala Provincial Council announced today, Sunday, the extension of the state of emergency for the government crisis cell for an additional 24 hours, in anticipation of the possibility of heavy rainfall and flooding, particularly in the eastern and northeastern areas of the province.
The head of the provincial council, Omar Al-Karawi, stated in a statement followed by the news agency that "the council has instructed to extend the state of emergency for the government crisis cell for 24 hours, in line with weather forecast predictions indicating the possibility of heavy rainfall in several areas of the province and the likelihood of flooding."
He added that "the state of emergency aims to ensure a rapid government response and intervention to face any emergency, especially in low-lying areas and those close to flood areas."
Al-Karawi pointed out that the wave of rainfall experienced in Diyala over the past 48 hours did not cause areas to flood or roads to be cut off, confirming that the extension of the state of emergency is part of the precautionary measures in anticipation of any potential weather developments.
