The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed on Saturday the UN Security Council resolution endorsing the autonomy plan for Western Sahara proposed by the Kingdom of Morocco, considering it a positive step towards a peaceful and lasting settlement of the conflict.

In a statement, the Ministry said, "Iraq welcomes the Security Council's vote on the resolution concerning the autonomy plan proposed by the Kingdom of Morocco and appreciates the diplomatic efforts that contributed to reaching this international understanding." The statement added that the resolution reaffirms the international community's support for a political process based on dialogue and understanding.
The Ministry further stated that "Iraq supports UN efforts aimed at finding a mutually acceptable political solution that guarantees security and stability in the region and strengthens constructive regional cooperation among all concerned parties." It emphasized that peaceful solutions are the best way to end conflicts, in accordance with international law and the principles of the United Nations.
