Israeli media circulated video footage documenting clashes between security personnel and fans at the "Shlomo Beitoh" stadium in Petah Tikva, north of Tel Aviv, during a match between Hapoel Petah Tikva and Maccabi Netanya as part of the "Toto" Cup.
Israeli Channel 12 reported that clashes erupted between fans during the halftime break of the match, resulting in one fan being injured and taken to "Beilinson" Hospital, with his condition described as between mild and moderate.
According to Israeli media, the fan sustained a head injury after being struck by a metal rod by one of the stadium security personnel, which sparked a wave of anger among the home team fans, who accused security officials of using excessive force against the fans.
The channel added that 3 security personnel were arrested, one of whom is a resident of East Jerusalem, as part of the ongoing investigations into the incident.
For its part, the Israeli police stated that they intervened immediately after the clashes broke out, which occurred while players and referees were in the locker rooms during the break, and managed to restore calm in the stands before the match resumed normally.
The police added that they detained a number of those involved for questioning, confirming that the head of the security force present at the stadium took charge of the situation immediately after the incident, while investigations are still ongoing to uncover its circumstances.
Hapoel Petah Tikva condemned what it described as a "shocking assault" on its fans, stating in a statement published on its official account that football has become "the last thing to think about."
The club confirmed that it is cooperating with the police in the investigation, demanding the arrest of all those involved and holding them accountable, emphasizing that "the blood of the fans is not to be taken lightly."
