The Baghdad Karkh Health Directorate organized a workshop today, Thursday, on drugs and ways to combat them in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior, in accordance with the directives of the Ministry of Health.
The directorate stated in a statement received by the News Video Agency that the workshop included an awareness lecture by the Director of the Government Communication Department at the Ministry of Interior, Mohammed Abdul Azim, which covered the definition of types of drugs and psychoactive substances, distinguishing between natural and synthetic materials that are more dangerous, as well as explaining their direct impact on the mind and the health, psychological, and social risks and complications of addiction.
It added that the lecture reviewed the legislative frameworks and penalties associated with drug trafficking and promotion, while introducing the legal provisions that exempt users from judicial prosecution if they voluntarily seek treatment, such as Article 40 of the Iraqi Drug Law, in addition to treatment and rehabilitation mechanisms and updating the approved treatment protocols.
The workshop emphasized combating methods as a shared responsibility and early prevention within the family, enhancing institutional integration among ministries and institutions, and activating digital platforms and media campaigns to promote sustainable preventive culture.
